Passion Fruit Root Stock Live Bareroot Plant Packed & Shipped Out the Same Day as Your Order

Our Passion Fruit Root Stocks are harvested from a fruit producing vine. When planted in tropical to sub-tropical climate will produce fruit that are delicious and satisfying. Grown as a houseplant in a sunny location this vine will have a few beautiful flowers but usually does not produce fruit indoors. Passiflora Caerulea is known as the Blue Passion Flower or the Common Passion Flower, is a native of South America. This woody vine is capable of growing to 30 to 50 feet high where supporting trees or trellis are available. The dark green leaves are five-lobed like a hand (sometimes three or seven lobes), 4 to 7 inches long and wide. The flowers, a favorite of both bees and butterflies, are about 4 inches in diameter with the five sepals and petals similar in appearance, whitish in colour, surmounted by a corona of blue or violet filaments, then five greenish-yellow stamens and three purple stigmas. The fruit is egg shaped orange-yellow berry 3 to 4 inches long by 2 to 3 inches in diameter, containing numerous seeds. In tropical climates, it will flower all year round. The Edible Passiflora Caerulea is cultivated worldwide and can be a substitute for blackberries. In South America, it is used to make juice, cocktails, wine, jelly, and delicious desserts such as the passion fruit mousse. We eat the seeds out of the ripest ones while in the garden, & the rinds go to compost. I just swish the seeds around in my mouth to release their wonderful flavor then swallow for a quick treat. In order to eat rind & all, including unripe green fruits can be prepared fried in butter & spice in an iron skillet with either potatos or eggs. But the first thing you need is the vine...
